KATHMANDU, May 5, 2026
Five major sister organizations of the Nepali Congress, which had been functioning under ad-hoc committees for a long time, were dissolved after failing to hold their general conventions within the stipulated deadline. The party had set a deadline of mid-April 2025 (Chaitra end, 2081 BS) for these bodies to conduct their conventions; however, the term was not extended as no progress was made.
The dissolved organizations include the Nepal Student Union, Nepal Tarun Dal, Nepal Mahila Sangh, Nepal Dalit Sangh, and Nepal Democratic Sports Association. According to General Secretary Pradip Paudel, the presidents of Tarun Dal and Dalit Sangh submitted their resignations, while the terms for the other three were simply not renewed. Consequently, all appointments and decisions made by these committees during their extended tenures are now considered invalid.
The Central Work Execution Committee has officially mandated Party President Gagan Kumar Thapa to facilitate the formation of new ad-hoc committees tasked with organizing the upcoming general conventions. Meanwhile, the term for the Nepal Tharu Sangh has been extended until May 31 (Jestha 17), as it has already scheduled its convention for May 30-31.
