Consistent Gas Imports: Oil Corporation Urges Consumers Against Unnecessary Hoarding and Risks

Kathmandu- March 13, 2026

The Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) has assured consumers that there is no shortage of cooking LP gas in the market and has urged the general public not to hoard gas beyond their actual needs. NOC spokesperson Manoj Thakur clarified that gas imports are continuing smoothly and regularly.

Supply and Consumption Status: According to spokesperson Thakur, Nepal's monthly gas consumption is approximately 45,000 to 46,000 metric tons, and the same quantity is imported every month. The corporation shared data showing that 45,500 metric tons of gas had already been imported as of Falgun 26 of the current month.

Appeal to Consumers and Safety Precautions: "There is no issue with the gas supply. Therefore, I urge everyone not to take unnecessary risks by hoarding gas in their homes," stated spokesperson Thakur. The NOC emphasized that it is continuously issuing directives to ensure smooth gas distribution and requested consumers to immediately provide information if they encounter any irregularities or artificial shortages.

Following recent political developments in Middle Eastern countries, which have created panic among consumers and led to a sudden spike in gas demand, the corporation has, as a precautionary measure, instructed gas industries to fill cylinders to only half their capacity. In accordance with this directive, gas industries have started sending cylinders filled with 7.1 kg of gas to the market starting today.
